Engineered for professional and industrial use, the rugged carbon fiber Falcon 8+ is made to provide stable and consistent flights in challenging conditions. It can handle weak GPS signals, high winds, magnetic field disturbances, and other external influences. It's an ideal solution for inspection and mapping missions of large and complex locations. For added safety, The Falcon 8+ UAV provides both electronic and hardware redundancy.


With professional payload options the Intel® Falcon™ 8+ drone can provide detailed data for orthography and 3D reconstruction, with millimeter accuracy for ground sample distance (GSD). The unique, patented V-shaped design helps ensure unobstructed data capture and enables a greater than 180 degree view from top to bottom for a range of perspectives, from one camera, in one flight. And for data privacy, the Falcon 8+ system can be configured as a closed system with isolated, on-board data storage that does not transmit data over the public internet.


The Intel® Falcon™ 8+ UAV is designed for superior safety with maximum electronic and hardware system redundancy. The AscTec Trinity Control Unit provides three redundant IMUs, for quick and reliable data fusion which verifies and controls the drone’s position, altitude, and orientation, for better responsiveness and stability during flights. It also features additional redundancies for communications, batteries, rotors, and motors.


Rugged for commercial jobs but compact for ultimate mobility, the Intel® Falcon™ 8+ system features high quality industrial design for professional use. Payloads are easily exchangeable in the field, and Intel® Powerpack batteries are designed for portability on airline flights.

Intel's AscTec Trinity Control Unit has three redundant IMUs, which verify and control the Falcon 8+'s position, altitude, orientation, and more. Additional redundancies are integrated for communications, batteries, rotors, and motors. When fully equipped with payload, controller, and battery, the Falcon 8+ can achieve flight times up to 26 minutes, speeds up to 40.3 mph, and can maintain video data links from up to 0.6 miles. It's V-shaped chassis allows for attached payloads to have a 180°+ unobstructed view from top to bottom.

The Inspection Payload for Falcon 8+ consists of two cameras mounted in parallel: a Panasonic ZS50 RGB camera and a FLIR Tau 2 640 thermal camera. When flying a single inspection mission, the dual cameras can capture both visual and thermal images in hybrid RGB + 14-bit raw. The data recorded includes the relevant position, orientation, and time stamp. It can also provide a real-time RGB and thermal video feed.


Emergency Response operations are a key use of thermal imaging.

Optical Zoom in addition to concurrent thermal viewing gives us the ability to fulfill almost all requirements.


Designed originally for the French and US Military services, the tether system we use permits use of either a 50 metre or 100 metre length of fixed power. This provides unlimited flight time (providing you keep filling up the generator with petrol/gas). 

The tether is automatically tensioned. It replaces one of the two battery packs in the Storm Drone. The second battery pack is used to ensure fail-safe backup. If the generator fails the Drones’ second battery will safely land the drone within 90 seconds, in a controlled manner.

The tension cable automatically reacts to gusts of wind and various external forces against the drone, ensuring there is never a pile of cable on the floor. 

The variety of uses for a Falcon 8+ in farming and agriculture is extensive.

One mapping solution would be the PARROT Sequoia camera, featuring two sensors. The multispectral sensor facing the plants captures the light that they reflect in four separate parts: green and red lights and two infrared bands invisible to the human eye.

Placed on the drone, the sunshine sensor records the intensity of light emanating from the sun in these four same bands of light. Collecting this data means that farmers can do what’s best for their fields. Advanced agriculture technology!

The sensor incorporates GPS, greatly increasing the accuracy of data collected without needing recordings by the transport platform: plane, drone, tractor etc.

Its range of internal components keeps it permanently informed of altitude, flight speed and position. It thereby adapts its capture speed accordingly. Mapping a surface has never been easier.


︎Industrial Applications with Intel FALCON 8+ 

Our Falcon 8+ with FLIR thermal camera deployment package saves time, money and are a safer method for inspecting dangerous equipment. 

Fire and Police Departments, along with Search and Rescue teams, tend to most often see the direct value of thermal vision cameras.

Not all thermal cameras are made equal, with vast quality differences available across the price range. A cheap thermal camera used to monitor heat escaping from a house will not provide the resolution or quality needed by Emergency Response units, particulary at an elevated distance. Our FLIR Thermal cameras are 640px x 512px units, allowing, as an example, clear identification of a figure from 75 feet away.

A full suite of onboard sensors includes Inertial Measurement (IMU) and GPS systems within the camera, as well as temperature and humidity sensors. This makes makes for an ideal self-contained georeferencing solution.

Devonshire and Cornwall Police are the UK’s first (but now not only) and largest Drone Unit in the United Kingdom. They operate with a DJI Matrice 210 RTK drone (in addition to officer-assigned DJI Mavic drones) equipped with dual-payload ability. They are a rural Police force, where the time it takes to engage the services of a force helicopter in a rescue situation can be not only expensive but time consuming and resource heavy. Instances of direct benefits of drone operations to Police departments are reported on weekly. As an example: Police drone finds man in ditch in Lincolnshire.

Drones with thermal heat vision cameras allow companies to gather calibrated radiometric temperature data quickly and easily covering large substations, as well as transmission and distribution lines in a fraction of the time it would take with a handheld imager. 

Utility inspections cover power lines, chimney stacks, water works, telecoms masts and much more.

A task that could usually take a number of personel, specialised elevation equipment ( e.g. a cherry-picker), involves difficult access and or time to safely deploy manpower, limited inspection movement (can only see one area/side easily), can all now be done with a deployed tethered drone and a small team / individual located safely on the ground.

The site can be fully scanned and recorded in both video and 3D mapping detail, allowing for further examination back at the office, and permanent logging of data. This permits future comparisons of the site/works if re-scanned again on a future date.
Drones with thermal cameras can scan large solar panel installations in a few minutes allowing the operator to isolate and measure potential problem areas with a single aerial view. 

Solar farm inspections are almost impossible from the ground.

Wind farm inspection often involves expensive deployment of crew and time to examine just one prop for any possible issue or defect. Drone inspection from a distance keeps the workers safe and can quickly achieve fast and efficent results that can be looked over repeatedly and discussed. Images and footage can be sent to suppliers and technical directors for further discussion. 

Replacement or servicing of parts will still require manual labour, but why pay for the labour and safety expense each time a site visit is required for a possible problem. Send the drone, inspect, collect data, analyse and review, order the correct part(s), then do the job. It saves potentially days/weeks of project time.
Particularly valuable for firefighting, our FLIR thermal camera gives Incident Commanders the ability to see through smoke and keep track of their personnel in large fire scenes.  Fire crews will know exactly where the fire is hottest and when the fire looks to be out, the FALCON 8+ Drone will be able to give definite confirmation of the heat has dissipated from the scene.

Our FALCON 8+ drone a equipped with a FLIR thermal camera is a must have piece of equipment for rescuers. It can be used both in day and night rescue operations.  With a wide elevated view and fast travelling speed, it can cover hundreds of acres in minutes. 

In daytime, the thermal radiation from a missing person on a mountain will stand out in a more vivid manner. Frequently thermal imaging is used during daytime operations to provide a greater seperation of scene->heat signatures.
In the case of coal mining, often coal is stored in vast quantities in large storage containers. This can lead to high risk of a fire. It is very important to carrying out temperature monitoring of these coal containers as self-ignition can easily take place.

Other mining operations have large conveyor belts, a drone with thermal camera is the quickest way to monitor the health of the equipment.  When certain equipment is stressed, it will show up hotter on a thermal image than previous. Thermal imaging can help detect equipment which is under stress and at some point will break.
Before drones, building and roofing inspections took a long time and has been a major source of workplace accidents over the years. Roof inspections and other building surveys with a thermal camera equipped drone will take just minutes saving time and lives.
